My name is Bob. I am a totally blind older fellow and live in the
Midwood section of Brooklyn near the Kings Highway station on the "B"
or "Q" lines.

I am looking to hire a companion/assistant to help me with running
errands, shopping, taking short walks, going to occasional doctors
appointments, light meal preparation (i.e. making sandwiches, etc.), and
keeping me company. Because the job involves going to occasional doctor's
appointments, or helping me with clothing, I would feel more comfortable
hiring a male helper.

You will be called upon to read out loud, and write things, so it is
essential that you read, write and speak English fluently.

Please understand that I do not need a lot of hours at one time, so it
would probably be best that you don't live too far from me, or that you
don't mind traveling (smile). I would need help from time to time, on an
as needed basis.

My rate of pay is $10 an hour, plus an extra $5 for carfare. So, for
example, if we work together for two hours, I would pay you $25, two and a
half hours would be $30, etc. The sessions are usually short.

If you have a car, that would be a plus, and I of course would reimburse
you for gas.

If you have computer or mechanical skills, that would also be a plus. By
the way, you will be surprised to learn that I am still using DOS on my
computer, with speech so I can read my own emails.

It is not necessary for you to have had experience working with a blind
person. But it is important that you feel comfortable interacting with
someone who cannot see, and also that you be somewhat verbal and have an
ability to describe things, especially if we "watch" a movie on DVD
together, etc.

References would be most appreciated.
