Terrain Garden Cafe is seeking a General Manager to create an exceptional customer dining and service experience for our guests. The Cafe is a unique destination within the innovative new garden center in Westport, CT scheduled to open May 2012. Our menu features a Farm to Table aesthetic, where we celebrate the best of locally-sourced, organic and in-season offerings in a beautiful greenhouse setting. The General Manager position provides leadership to the front of house staff, supervising and developing the performance of all staff members.
Applicant should be a strong leader, demonstrate gracious service to customers in all situations, collaborate effectively within a team, and set high standards for excellence for service levels and operations.

Founded in 2008 by Urban Outfitters Inc, Terrain (www.ShopTerrain.com) transforms the local garden center into a celebration of nature. Our flagship location in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania was inspired by the idea of merging house and garden to create an experience for the senses, catering to our customer with a curated assortment of plants for all seasons, as well as inspired items for the home and garden. Situated in a luxurious indoor-outdoor environment, our on-site nursery is flanked by a cafe and garden terrace, providing the ideal environment to host events and workshops.
Responsibilities
Hiring and scheduling front of house operations staff
Submitting payroll to accounting, coding invoices for A/P, billing & collecting A/R
Completing weekly inventories, ordering supplies.
Ensuring preventative maintenance program is implemented, maintaining a high level of cleanliness.
Regular work hours with flexibility in work schedule that includes, nights, weekends and holidays.
Adhering to and enforcing company policies, safety rules, and compliance
Qualifications
Competencies include concise, clear verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent customer service and conflict management skills. Demonstrate ability to interact with coworkers in a variety of situations and maintain a calm demeanor in a stressful environment.
Interact professionally with supervisors, guests, vendors and corporate employees. Model ethical and honest leadership skills
A minimum of two (2) years of experience as a General Manager in a similar full-service restaurant environment.
Demonstrate knowledge of computers, MS Office, and Aloha management system experience strongly preferred.
