Position Description Summary:

The position of the fitness director is responsible for the overall operations and programming of the fitness facility, with primary oversight of the operating standards, systems and practices as they directly impact the overall excellence of the department.
1. Candidate must be passionate about and experienced, involved, or knowledgeable in squash. Consider experience as player, coach, running tournaments, managing squash facility, squash programming as a plus.
2. Athletics Manager will not be conducting any personal training for a fee, but may conduct specially training classes or seminars for a fee.
3. Playing squash will not be a job requirement, but will be allowed if the manager chooses to do so.
4. Some of the key qualities the committee highlighted include; management experience, respectful employee relations, interact with members, creative, problem solver, proactive, anticipatory, emotional intelligence, programming, include members in the process, outgoing, continue kids programming and round robins, enthusiasm, team builder.
Essential Accountabilities and Functions:

1.To oversee all financial aspect of the fitness department operations, including working with other department heads and supervisors as needed to insure that the financial performance of the fitness department meets budget.

2.To select, hire, coach, mentor and educate fitness department employees in a manner that reinforces the clubs values and philosophies and insure the operation of the department meets company standards and provides and environment that promotes membership

3.To oversee all operating practices, polices and systems that are necessary for achieving the departments and clubs strategic and business plan goal.

4.To oversee all fitness programming and marketing practices, policies and systems that are necessary for achieving the department's and club's strategic and business plan goals.

Specific Job Accountabilities:

1.To select, hire and lead department employees and outside contractors in all work areas, including locker rooms, fitness floor, group exercise, massage, personal training, racquet sports, etc. This includes managing all aspect of the selection, hiring, education process and providing leadership for the team on a daily basis.

2.To conduct regular meetings and education sessions for employees, including monthly department meetings and daily line- ups.

3.To oversee the financial success of the fitness department through: correct pricing of services, monitoring and management of employees payroll and lesson payments, daily and monthly audits of sales, forecasting department performance on a monthly basis and whatever other actions must occur for the department to meet its budget an forecast goals.

4.To handle the daily, weekly and period payroll functions & outside contractor billing for the department, including, but not limited to, collecting and auditing outside contractor invoices, and doing all payroll activities, etc.

5.To create, implement resources and/or execute the necessary actions steps required to successfully meet the fitness operating standards of the club.

6.To create, coordinate, resource, implement market and sell fitness programs and services. In doing so, to insure proper systems are implemented so as to insure that the club programs meet the needs of membership and drive member participation in such a manner as to create and enhance Member retention.

7.To utilize the available resources of the club in executing the responsibilities of fitness director. This includes incorporating any standards and systems the club has established for operations and programming.

8.To assist in the delivery of department services as required, including providing specific services as qualified to do so by working the floor, instructing a class, handling squash attendant and front desk duties, cleaning, and generally leading by example, etc.)

9.To meet regularly with the manager and other department heads/supervisors to make sure there is complete cooperation between departments in the club and to insure that there is regular communication to other employees in the club regarding the department's services and operation.

10.To coordinate Athletics Committee meetings, advise, and facilitate policy decisions regarding operations and maintenance of the department including exercise classes, fitness programs, tournaments, etc.

11. To assist with any required job activity of the department, as may be needed so as to insure members are always served in accordance with the clubs overall service philosophy.

12.To conduct oneself at all times in a manner of professionalism that aligns with the values, philosophies and standards of the Club.

Reporting Relationships:
Reports to: Clubhouse Director
Directly Supervises: Squash Pro, Locker Room Supervisor, locker room staff, fitness floor staff, squash staff, group exercise contractors, massage therapist contractors, and personal training contractors.

Work Experience:
1.Minimum of three year's experience in similar department head role.
2.Minimum seven years experiences in the club and/or fitness industry.

Education:
1.College Degree in health, fitness, sports management or related field
2.Masters Degree in related field preferred but not required.
3.Proof of continuing education in related field.

Certification/ License
1.Certification in CPR.
2.Certifications from national organization such as ACSM, ACE, NSCA, etc, required.
