Be able to prepare meals if the cook is absent. Duties include assisting cook. Food preparation skills include but are not limited to: measuring, washing, peeling, cutting, slicing and portioning foods. kitchen sanitation and general cleaning such as but not limited to set up and clean up prior to and after meal time - collecting and washing trays, washing Pot/pan, and serving utensils. Receive and stock groceries for pantry. Assist with delivery of pantry bags. Assist staff with inventory of pantry items (tracking and reporting based on contract requirements for items in pantry). Attends all required training in-services. Other duties as assigned. Assist with delivery of food to client's home.
Qualifications:
Graduate from high school or equivalent preferred. Experience providing food planning and or preparation services to populations with specific dietary needs. knowledge of food, sanitation and cost control and or experience planning and or preparing meals for PLWHA or populations with specific dietary needs. NYS Department of Health Food Handlers Certificate or ServSafe Certification (must be obtained prior to start date)
Skills:
The Candidate must exhibit accurate knife skills and the ability to function in all aspects of the kitchen operation. Previous experience with social service program, soup kitchen, food and nutritional program or similar. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Candidates must be able to communicate, read and write in English fluently and in a professional manner and to calculate mathematically at 10 grade level. The Candidate must exhibit accurate knife skills and the ability to manage all aspects of the kitchen operation. Clean and inspect kitchen equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation. A culinary training degree is preferred, but not required. Requires the ability to work efficiently and within a team environment.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The Team Member frequently is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Team Member is occasionally required to sit. The Team Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
