Sales Agent for Where to Bike New York City Cycling Guidebook
We are looking to hire an experienced bicycle trade sales agent on a contract basis.
About Where to Bike Cycling Guidebooks
? Each Where to Bike title is tightly focused on one city.
? Once a title is published, we will do reprints as required and updated editions every few years.
? We sell books through the book trade and bike trade. As a sales agent, you would solely be responsible for the bike trade.
? To date, we've sold more books through bike shops than book shops.
? We typically print 5,000 copies per print run, but allow ourselves flexibility.
? We know that most bike shops are not good at displaying books. That's why we require bike shops to buy books in six packs, which are attractive, full color POP display boxes.
? Our MTB guidebooks represent a different target market, recreational mountain bikers.
? We need an sales agent who can take a couple of cartons with them on the road, check each shop's stock level and supply new six packs of books as required.
? We plan to maximize our 'geographic density' by publishing urban and MTB titles. In this way, you may have two different titles that are attractive sales propositions for one shop.
? Bike shops must purchase in six pack multiples, with a minimum of one six pack.
? The books are printed in full color, on heavy gloss paper, typically 300 pages in length, featuring 50 adult rides and 30 kids rides.
? Where to Bike New York City retails for $24.95.
? We pay $25.00 commission per sale of each six pack.

Company Background
USA Company
Where to Bike LLC was established in 2010, as a USA corporation, registered in Delaware and administered by a firm of accountants, Kaufman, Schmid, Gray & Salt, LLP based in California. It is owned by an Australian company which in turn is solely owned by Catie Latz.
For the time being we do not have any salaried employees or company owned premises in the USA. All USA based authors, distributors, sales agents etc work on a contract basis.
We established Where to Bike LLC to allow publication, distribution and sales of our Where to Bike series of cycling guidebooks, eBooks and apps.
The first of these was Where to Bike Chicago, followed by Philadelphia and Washington DC. Currently in production: Los Angeles, New York City, Portland, Orange County, Los Angeles MTB and Orange County MTB, with further titles planned.
We are members of Bikes Belong and the League of American Bicyclists.
Parent Company
Bicycling Australia is Australia's leading publisher of cycling magazines and books. We were established in 1989 by Phil and Catie Latz, who remain sole owners, first publishing Bicycling Australia magazine, followed by the Bicycling Buyers Guide, Bicycling Yearbook and Mountain Biking Australia magazine. These publications are sold throughout Australia and New Zealand.
In 2007, we commenced publishing our 'Where to Ride' series of cycling guidebooks. The first was Where to Ride South East Queensland, followed by Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Tasmania, Canberra, London, Eastern Victoria, Western & Northern Victoria and Sydney MTB.
Several more books in this series are in various stages of production. We are also publishing e-book versions, maps and an iPhone app.
We sell a wide range of cycling books, dvd's, posters, clothing, giftware and other items through a network of dealers and online at www.bagear.com
We also run a popular free cycling classified advertising service and offer a range of other services on our website at www.bicyclingaustralia.com.au
We've been heavily involved in cycling advocacy and are were founding members and directors of the Cycling Promotion Fund which is the Australian equivalent of Bikes Belong.
We're based in Port Kembla, NSW, which is approximately 50 miles south of Sydney.
Our Corporate Culture
We always aim to produce the highest quality products. 100% of these are within our core field of expertise and passion, which is cycling.
For our Where to Bike series, we produce very high quality, full color cycling guidebooks which are more expensive, but also much better, than any comparable books on the USA market.
We are a stable, two generation, family company with about 15 staff in total, some of whom work part time. We have extremely low staff turnover. Our core values are generosity, family, integrity and innovation.
We're reasonably well organized, with a very sophisticated in house database system to manage all of our client relationships, sales and invoicing.
We have always been heavily involved in charity and cycling advocacy, including, in the case of Where to Bike, World Bicycle Relief.
We prefer to under promise and over deliver.
Our mission statement: To enhance all aspects of cycling by providing information for both trade and consumers. Everything our team does must be of the highest quality and integrity.
Regarding book sales to bike shops in particular we set a fair prices, with no 'deals' for particular customers. We always consider the lifetime value of the customer and most of our sales are repeats to longstanding customers.
