Linux Systems Administrator (Midtown East)

We're a small firm of design-driven, passionate technologists who work in midtown Manhattan. We wear a lot of hats, both as an organization and as individuals. We're a full service web consulting firm, but we're also a product and R&D shop. For your role, we're looking for a linux system administrator with a strong background for automation of tasks and setting and following standards, and a focus on stability and maintainability of server environments.

Your responsibilities at Arc90 will include:
- Direct ownership for server/site uptime for 2 product lines (25+ servers)
- Direct ownership for scaling systems
- Capacity management for all environments
- Supporting dev and test environments for the team
- Implementing best practices (server configuration, security, etc)
- Staying current on software updates for technologies in use and determine appropriate time lines for upgrades
- Reporting on the state of the environment and make recommendations for change as appropriate
- Working closely with the team to ensure the needs of the platform are defined and met

Regarding skillset, you definitely:
- Are a smart, motivated, focused person who enjoys participating in crafting and scaling great software
- Are an expert in Linux system administration
- Have experience with Amazon EC2 and the AWS stack (we use fun stuff like S3, ELB, ElastiCache, CloudFront, RDS, IAM, SES)
- Have experience with queuing or asynchronous task systems
- Have experience scaling up web applications
- Have proficiency in at least one scripting language (python, ruby, whatever)
- Are living in NYC or looking to move here
- Are qualified to work in the United States without sponsorship (Sorry, we can't currently sponsor H1-B candidates.)
- Are a good communicator and enjoy working with teams of smart folks
- Have opinions on the right way to do things, and are comfortable sharing them, respectfully

Additionally, it'd be nice if you:
- Have an interest in, or want to learn more about, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment
- Understand and enjoy HTTP and RESTful web applications
