Children of Promise, NYC (CPNYC) is a community based organization that provides a year round, unique, integrated service model that meets the distinctive needs of children with an incarcerated parent. CPNYC's mission is to provide children impacted by parental incarceration with the guidance, support and necessary resources to effectively develop leadership skills, form positive social relationships and enhance academic performance. Implementing the principles and best practices of youth development, this innovative after-school program and summer day camp infuses a mental health model.

Internship Description
- Make a difference in a child's life while gaining valuable skills and experience for your future career goals. If your educational focus is Education, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or Counseling, our summer program provides an excellent internship opportunity.

Key Areas of Internship
- Help school age children improve their literacy, math, and science competencies.
- Support activity specialist with their lesson plans (Physical Education, Music, Art,
Spoken Word)
- Help staff plan and create innovative age appropriate activities to conduct on a daily basis (read and tell stories, sing songs and play games).
- Assist staff maintain daily attendance and emergency contacts records for each participant; assure classrooms and other shared space is well maintained and clean.
- Attend off-site field trips (biking, roller skating, amusement parks, museums and nature walks).

Eligibility
- Second or third year student in good standing is preferred.
- Students enrolled in Child Education; Special Education; Teacher Education; Early Childhood Education; Human Services; Social Work; Psychology; Counseling or Criminal Justice.
- Available July 9th -- August 31st (training 3-4 days, late June, exact dates TBD)
- Excellent team player, enthusiastic and reliable.
- Interest in working at a nonprofit organization committed to children.

Location: Brooklyn, New York (Bedford Stuyvesant)

Hours: 16-18 hours per week. Shifts include: M/W/F 8:00am-1:30pm OR M/W/F 12:00pm-5:30pm OR Tues/Thurs 8:00am-5:00pm

Stipend: $500 stipend available for eligible students.
