Our Mission: To educate and motivate students to achieve excellence in math.
Launch Math Achievement Centers offer an affordable, after-school and weekend mathematics program for students in grades Pre-K through 8. Launch provides inspiring and effective mathematics instruction by merging innovative curriculum, science clubs and workshops, and an engaging learning environment to foster respect, appreciation, and passion for math. Our programs are offered in the Launch center on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and in schools across the city.
Your role as a Part-Time Launch Instructor:
As a Launch Instructor you may tutor children in mathematics at our center one day, teach our Robots, Rockets & Electronics after-school program another day, and/or engage young computer scientists in our Scratch programming club on a third day.
Your responsibilities as a Part-Time Launch Instructor:
* Provide top quality math tutoring utilizing the Launch methods (in our center)
* Teach students programming techniques using the Scratch language (in our center and/or in schools)
* Engage students with science projects as an instructor for our Robots, Rockets & Electronics after-school workshop (in our center and/or in schools)
Qualifications to be a Part-Time Launch Instructor:
* Solid knowledge of math concepts for grades pre-k through 8th
* Ability to create computer programs using the Scratch language (www.scratch.mit.edu)
* A passion and skill for building various science projects with kids ranging from robots to rockets to electronics
* Personable, friendly, focused, and communicative
* Previous experience working with students as a tutor or in a similar capacity
* Availability to work between 6 to 18 hours each week
* Most important, the belief that every student can learn and love math
Other details:
* Part-time position (combinations of Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and/or Sat 9:00 am to 3:00 pm)
* Center location: 173 West 81st Street, Lower Level (just off Amsterdam Ave.)
* School locations: Upper East Side, Lower East Side, Upper West Side
* Compensation: Up to $14.00 per hour
