POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Engineering Department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the physical plant, its mechanical systems, and for the renovation or alteration of existing facilities. The staff includes professional engineers, licensed operating engineers, operating mechanics, masters level administrative personnel, planning, and craft specialists.

Specific crafts available within the Engineering staff are: carpentry, drafting, electrical (including fine instrumentation), machine-shop, painting, plumbing, refrigeration, sheet metal, stationary and watch engineers. Services are provided under three subsections of the department.

Position Summary

The ideal candidate must be able to Supervise, manage and train all employees in Plumbing Shop. Be responsible for attaining goals and adhering to standards of the plumbing shop. Must be able to establish priority of work depending upon project schedules and assist in budget development and cost tracking of plumbing tasks. Will assist in project planning and budget development, feasibility and logistics. Must also ensure that all plumbing installations are code compliant and will order materials listed for each project and maintain shop stock and inventory

List of Responsibilities

Set and implement performance standards, including safe practices and quality standardsEstablish shop priorities to serve the Institution's expectations and reject work that is not up to shop standards Issue daily work assignments and track progress by worker/task/projectAssess drawings and interact with other trade supervisors to coordinate service deliveryInteract with other trade supervisors to coordinate service deliveryBe familiar with overall project schedule and plan for timely delivery of servicesMaintain data entry of all labor/materials and equipment and approve invoices and submit for paymentAssess site conditions and recommend changesSchedule and monitor Overtime as neededMaintain clean, orderly shop and equipment/toolsRespond to emergencies and establish on-call presenceCounsel workers regarding labor relations issuesTrouble shoot problems and identify and track changesResearch material purchases and prepare paperwork for requisitionsInteract with faculty, suppliers and contractorsClose out tickets in a timely mannerHandle all employee disciplinary issuesEstablish 2 week schedule forecasts & track actuals to planFluency in Microsoft Project & current version of AutoCADMonitor and assess all hazardous materials and removal

Additional Responsibilities

Must be able to work with team, project managers and supervisors of other trades Must be on-call for all plumbing emergencies as needed Must be skillful in coordination of construction and supervision of the trades Must attend job project meetings Must defend the University with regard to union issues

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience and Educational Background

Ten years experience in trade; Five years experience in supervisory roleHigh School Diploma/GED required; Two year Associates Degree or Bachelors preferredKnowledge of all construction trades with emphasis on plumbingAble to utilize computer systems (i.e. Work Order Management Systems & MS Project for schedules)Related trade Licenses preferred
