Citizens Campaign for the Environment is New York's largest and most effective grassroots environmental organization with over 85,000 members and more than 28 years of experience winning campaigns that have preserved and improved our air and water quality. Recent successes include the NY Sewage Right to Know Act that creates a warning system for when sewage overflows into our communities and open waterways, the NY Child Safe Playing Fields Act that bans toxic pesticides on school playgrounds (K-12), and the defeat of Shell Oil's (world's 2nd largest oil company) proposal to build a natural gas facility in Long Island Sound. We are also the organization leading the charge against Hydrofracking (hydraulic-fracturing) for natural gas, a major threat to our state and NYC's drinking water, in upstate NY.
