Fabrication Assistant Needed (Williamsburg Brooklyn)

More infoEmerging artist with a fully-equipped sculpture and 3D fabrication studio seeks an intern to assist with work development and fabrication on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

The studio is located within a shared workshop in Williamsburg, so only responsible people with woodworking, metal working, and/or digital fabrication experience need apply. Knowledge of welding steel and aluminum is a huge plus. The ideal candidate must be able to work independently and complete all assigned tasks ON TIME and to specification. Proficiency with at least 3 of the following software applications is a MUST: Photoshop, Illustrator, Z-brush, Solidworks, Sketchup, or Similar CAD package

Duties will include:
1. Assistance with development and fabrication of 2.5D and 3D polymedia artworks.
2. General shop maintenance and cleanup.
3. Making runs for materials and tooling (mostly around Brooklyn. Sometimes in Manhattan)
4. Operation of a 3 axis CNC router. Training will be provided.
5. Some assistance with site specific installation of artworks.

2. A $100 weekly stipend.
3. Limited use of the studio/ equipment/ excess materials to develop your own projects. This will be negotiated based on your skill level and output.

I need assistance from September 1st until Mid/ Late December for approximately 12 - 16 hours a week. Working hours are pretty flexible so nights and weekends are ok however at least 4 - 5 hours during weekdays will be required in order to interface with businesses that have normal operating hours. Your output will be under strict scrutiny throughout the duration of the project.
