The New York City Teaching Residency program is recruiting talented, committed individuals to become effective teachers who dedicate themselves to raising student achievement and driving change as part of a school turnaround strategy in New York City's lowest performing schools.
Unlike most teacher preparation programs in which participants might only spend a few weeks in a classroom before they become full-time teachers, Residents learn the essentials of great teaching under the guidance of an experienced mentor teacher while fully immersed in a NYC public school community for one school year. Through this school-embedded approach, Residents will gain the skills needed to become effective teachers who are prepared to drive change and turn around the performance of New York City's lowest-performing public schools. Residents will also participate in a subsidized master's degree program through St. John's University that is tailored to support their immediate work in the classroom and lay the foundation for a career in teaching.
